This ministry has recently moved! Formerly being headed under the Christian Formation Department, the Puppet Ministry is now under the direction of the Minister of Worship. We know that laughter and drama are an effective way to spread the good news of Jesus Christ, and we are excited to see this ministry expand in the future! If you are interested in the Puppet Ministry, you need no former experience. Training can be given. Please contact Brittany Henson, Minister of Worship, for more information! Our mission is to use puppetry to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our greatest joy is to encourage people in our church and community, thus the name, Puppetcheers! The Puppetcheers utilize puppetry in drama and music that appeals to people of all ages! Ever since the Puppetcheers began in January of 1999, God has opened many doors and the response to the puppets has been very positive. We have found the puppet team is welcome in a variety of settings and has performed without compromising the Gospel message. The Puppetcheers have appeared in parks, shopping malls, during Sunday morning services, children's Sunday school, Christmas plays, and Vacation Bible School. As one adult audience member stated, "The puppets make people aware of the message of Jesus Christ in a fun and meaningful way." The puppets are ethnically diverse and have been given names that represent their culture. There is Singing Sparrow, who is Native American, and Ming Wan, who is Asian. And, then, there is Shades, a hip-hop master DJ. There are many other puppets that seem to have developed personalities and might even be offended if it weren't for the fact that they are actually controlled by a human hand! As with many other performing ministries, those involved continually work on their craft. In the case of puppetry, this involves hand and lip synchronization techniques. |
